Nursing plays a crucial role in health education, helping to mitigate this problem. General objective: To analyze the increase in syphilis cases among the elderly population. Specific objectives: To understand the cause of the increase in syphilis cases among the elderly population, to conduct an epidemiological study of syphilis cases in the elderly population, to describe the role of nurses in the prevention of syphilis in the elderly population, and to analyze the elderly population's perception of sexuality and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections. Methodology: This study was characterized by a literature review, with a search for articles in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Nursing Database (BDENF). Results: Through the analysis of the selected articles, it was observed that syphilis has been showing an increasingly higher incidence in the elderly population, which, contrary to social stereotypes, has a largely active sex life. However, the absence of public policies for this group and the difficulty nursing professionals face in approaching them make them more vulnerable to syphilis. Conclusion: It was concluded that the sharp increase in syphilis cases among the elderly is linked to their lack of knowledge about sexually transmitted infections, scarce public policies, and insufficient professional preparation in healthcare. Therefore, there is an urgent need for health education for this group.

Keywords: Nursing; Sexually Transmitted Infections; Elderly Population; Syphilis.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Grazielle Ferreira da Silva de Almeida, Jannaína Sther Leite Godinho Silva, Lilia Marques Simões Rodrigues, Thainá Oliveira Lima, Elaine Pereira Alves, Elisângela do Nascimento Fernandes Gomes http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5112 The benefits of physical activity in the gestational period: Knowledge and role of nurses in the Family Health Strategy 2026-03-24T05:45:14-03:00 Camila Rocha Fiuza camilarfiuza@gmail.com Mário Luiz Jacobino Ribeiro mlj30ribeiro@gmail.com Elisângela do Nascimento Fernandes Gomes elisangelavass@yahoo.com.br Alessandra da Silva Souza alesouza22@yahoo.com.br José Carlos do Nascimento josecarlos.nascimento@univassouras.edu.br
According to the Ministry of Health, the practice of physical activity during pregnancy and in the postpartum period is safe because it brings several benefits, both for maternal and baby health, in addition to reducing some pregnancy-related complications. The practice of physical activity during pregnancy has been widely studied, mainly due to the positive effects it promotes for the health of the mother and fetus. The research used a qualitative approach, through a literature review. The databases used were Lilacs, Capes and Scielo Journals, as they are widely recognized in the health area and offer broad access to peer-reviewed scientific articles, ensuring the credibility and timeliness of the information. Stories like that of Maria José Bezerra highlight exclusion based on race and gender. Racism operates at personal, interpersonal, and institutional levels, limiting opportunities and reinforcing stigmas. This study aims to investigate the causes of Black nurses' invisibility in healthcare and is presented as an integrative literature review with an exploratory qualitative approach. The research was conducted using databases such as the "Nursing Database," "Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature," "Online System for Searching and Analyzing Medical Literature," "Psychology Index," and the "Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences." The descriptors used were nursing, structural racism, racism, Black population, social construction of ethnicity, healthcare personnel. A total of 235 articles were found, of which 9 were selected after a full reading. The articles point to historical roots of invisibility linked to structural racism. Barriers such as inequality in access to education, workplace violence, and institutional racism exacerbate the issue. Anti-racist strategies in professional training and the appreciation of cultural practices are essential to promote equity and representation in nursing. The invisibility of Black nurses results from historical and structural factors, such as institutional racism, academic exclusion, and labor market inequalities, demanding urgent actions for greater equity.

Keywords: Nursing; Structural Racism; Black Population; Social Construction of Ethnicity; Healthcare Personnel.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Weslei Lopes de Sousa, Luther King de Andrade Santana, Marilei de Melo Tavares, Lília Marques Simões Rodrigues, Thainá Oliveira Lima http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5106 The Use of Music therapy in the care of neonates in the Intensive Care Unit: Integrative Review 2025-12-31T07:26:12-03:00 Luciana Correa Gôda lucianagoda15@gmail.com Alessandra da Silva Souza alesouza22@yahoo.com.br Elisângela Nascimento Fernandes Gomes elisangelavass@yahoo.com.br Eliara Adelino da Silva eliara.silva@univassouras.edu.br Geisa Sereno Velloso da Silva geisa.velloso@hotmail.com Jannaina Sther Leite Godinho Silva jjasther@gmail.com
The use of non-pharmacological strategies has gained prominence in the healthcare context, especially in intensive care, for helping reduce negative feelings, relieving pain, and stabilizing patients' vital signs. However, its development depended on the incorporation of new technologies that respond to the new way of delivering health actions. The objective of this study is to understand health professionals' perceptions of the digital innovations adopted in PHC, which have favored the multidisciplinary work process. This is an observational and exploratory study, qualitative in nature, conducted in a medium-sized municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Nine health professionals assigned to two PHC units were interviewed, with recurrence of responses serving as the limiting parameter for the subject group, a possible approach in qualitative studies. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered with open-ended questions that allowed participants to express their opinions on the topic, and the theoretical framework adopted for data interpretation was content analysis. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under number CAAE 67654223.3.0000.5290. During the analysis process, two categories emerged: innovations in healthcare, which encompass user service hours, the implementation of the expanded clinic concept, the size of the enrolled population, and accessibility; and digital innovations, which involve the lack of communication tools, the use of digital medical records, and telehealth. Although healthcare services adopted innovations in both categories after the COVID-19 pandemic, this study identified only two innovations in PHC: accessibility between professionals and users and the use of electronic medical records. It can be concluded that these two innovations were already present in the official documents of the National Primary Care Policy and are therefore no longer innovative today. What was expected as innovation driven by the pandemic and digital advancement, such as telehealth, was not present in the reported perceptions.

Keywords: Health Innovation; Digital Health; Primary Health Care.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Lucas Ribeiro Santa Anna, Matheus Santos de Macedo Soares, Marcos Alex Mendes da Silva http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5645 The women's conceptions about their mental health during the puerperal period 2025-10-06T05:19:24-03:00 Táilla Fernanda Sousa de Almeida tailla.nanda35@outlook.com Luma Costa Pereira Peixoto luma.costa@uesb.edu.br Michelle Kristine Bispo dos Santos Lôbo michellekristine26@gmail.com Vivian Mara Ribeiro vmribeiro@uesb.edu.br Alana Libania de Souza Santos alana.santos@uesb.edu.br
The postpartum period, the period immediately after childbirth, is a phase of significant fragility for women's mental health. During this phase, intense hormonal, physical and emotional changes occur, which can contribute to the development of mental suffering. The general objective of this research was to understand how women conceive of their mental health during the postpartum period. This is a qualitative, exploratory investigation carried out in the area covered by a Family Health Unit (USF) in a city in the interior of the state of Bahia. This investigation involved women who were going through the postpartum phase. Descriptions of the experiences were collected in their homes, through guided interviews based on a semi-structured script. After the interviews, the textual material was subjected to the thematic content analysis technique proposed by Bardin. The results were organized into three thematic categories: women's conception of their mental health during the postpartum period; social and family support network as a fundamental element in the postpartum period; strategies used by postpartum women to cope with the adversities of the postpartum period. The analyses demonstrated that the postpartum period was marked mainly by feelings of anxiety, fatigue and insecurity, also highlighting the lack of a support network and professional monitoring, as factors that contribute to the worsening of psychological distress. Therefore, the study contributes to the reflection on the importance of mental health care in the postpartum period, reinforcing the need for more welcoming and comprehensive care for women during this period.

Keywords: Nursing Care; Pregnancy; Postpartum period; Mental Health.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Táilla Fernanda Sousa de Almeida, Luma Costa Pereira Peixoto, Michelle Kristine Bispo dos Santos Lôbo, Vivian Mara Ribeiro, Alana Libania de Souza Santos http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5606 Nursing Diagnosis For Patients In A Hypertension Emergency: Case Report 2025-11-25T14:16:44-03:00 Drieli Oliveira Silva drielioliveira07@gmail.com Ana Carolina Oliveira Araújo ana.coa@ufba.br Beatriz Guimarães Rodrigues rodrigues.beatriz@ufba.br Debora Silva de Freitas freitas.debora@ufba.br RonyCarlos Barbosa Souza ronycarlos.souza@ufba.br Juliana Xavier Pinheiro Cunha julianaxcunha@gmail.com Chrisne Santana Biondo tity_biondo_enf@hotmail.com Drieli Oliveira Silva drielioliveira07@gmail.com
Introduction: Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is one of the main public health problems in Brazil and worldwide, due to its high prevalence and significant impact on morbidity and mortality. Objective: to analyze the influence of alcohol and illicit drug use on the clinical evolution of tuberculosis (TB). Materials and Method: integrative literature review using the PVO method to formulate the question - "What is the influence of alcohol and illicit drug use on the clinical evolution of patients with TB?". The question was prepared based on the Health Science Descriptors (DeCS), Medical Subject Headings (MESH) and Embase Subject Heading (Emtree), which combined using the Boolean operators AND and OR constituted the search expression in the fields by title, abstract and keywords in the PubMed, LILACS, EMBASE, Web of Science and Scopus databases. Full-text articles, primary, in Portuguese, English or Spanish, from 2014 to 2024 were considered. Results: 48 articles were selected for full reading and analysis. Discussion: Most of them addressed the influence of alcohol or illicit drug use on treatment adherence, contributing to loss of follow-up, death from TB, longer culture conversion time, higher percentage of lung involvement and development of antimicrobial resistance, especially among those with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or smokers. Final considerations: substance use contributes not only to the perpetuation of the transmission chain, but also to unfavorable outcomes that could be avoided, interfering with the effectiveness of health surveillance actions.

Keywords: Tuberculosis; Alcoholism; Illicit drugs; Treatment Outcome; Epidemiology.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Mariana Bobato Pulgatti, Rafaele Oliveira Bonfim, Rebeca Sousa Braga, Arlindo Gonzaga Branco Junior, Nathalia Halax Orfão http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5777 The Academy's persistent disinterest in professional nursing education 2026-03-30T16:27:47-03:00 Ademar Guimarães Melo guimelo@hotmail.com Bruno Fernandes Guedes bruno.guedes@cefet-rj.br Guilherme Dias Marconi da Costa guilherme.dias@cefet-rj.br Marcela dos Santos Nunes marcela.nunes@cefet-rj.br Úrsula Pérsia Paulo dos Santo ursula.santos@cefet-rj.br
Introduction: Nursing technicians constitute a significant portion of the healthcare workforce; therefore, academic concern with the training of these professionals is expected. Objectives: To determine academic interest in nursing technician training and its topics of interest. Materials and Methods: This is a systematic literature review conducted from January 2020 to June 2025 in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) using Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). Results and Discussion: Fourteen studies that met the search criteria were identified and grouped into four categories: Training Itineraries, Teaching-Learning, Teacher Training, and Systematic Review. The small number of studies reveals, contrary to expectations, the limited importance given to the training of these professionals. Furthermore, recurring themes remain unresolved, such as the convergence between theory and practice and the implementation of integrated teaching. Final Considerations: Analysis of the results reveals a persistent lack of academic interest in nursing technician training.

Keywords: Nursing technician; Systematic review; Teaching
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Ademar Guimarães Melo, Bruno Fernandes Guedes, Guilherme Dias Marconi da Costa, Marcela dos Santos Nunes, Úrsula Pérsia Paulo dos Santo http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5781 Performance metrics as a driving tool for proficient care in hospital wards: a review 2026-03-30T16:09:49-03:00 Neidianna Mendonça neidiannamm@id.uff.br Rose Mary Costa Rosa Andrade Silva roserosauff@gmail.com Eliane Ramos Pereira elianeramos.uff@gmail.com Viviane da Conceição Carius Comym viviane.comym@gmail.com
Introduction: With globalization, nursing faces the imperative need to improve its routines to ensure proficient care. In this regard, qualified care requires the careful handling of efficient metrics in the assessment of results. Objective: To analyze studies that reference indicators used by nurses to leverage qualified care in nursing wards. Materials and Methods: Integrative review, selecting articles from reliable digital sites during April 2025. Two reviewers conducted the screening independently, and any discrepancies were resolved by consensus after discussion. The selection included articles in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese that were freely available, complete, without time restrictions, and dealt exclusively with hospital wards. Results: The review lists 14 published articles, 29% of which are Brazilian. After analysis, five categories emerged: Continuous Training and Education; Assertive Communication and Structured Feedback; Underreporting and Institutional Culture; Applicability of Performance Metrics; and Work Environment and Staffing Levels. Discussion: Indicators are metrics perceived by nurses as an important strategy that qualifies and ensures care. However, setbacks in communication and in the analysis of reported errors deteriorate the culture surrounding safety at the institutional level. Conclusion: The experience of nurses must be consistent with educational processes. Furthermore, performance measurement, carried out through the application of indicators, represents a successful strategy in ensuring effective care and continuous improvement of workflows.

Keywords: Patient Safety; Quality Indicators in Healthcare; Nursing Care; Review.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Neidianna Mendonça, Rose Mary Costa Rosa Andrade Silva, Eliane Ramos Pereira, Viviane da Conceição Carius Comym http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5783 Integrative Review: Nummular Eczema – Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Treatment 2026-04-09T19:29:16-03:00 Gustavo Paschoalino Reinck de Azevedo gustavoreinck@gmail.com Juliana dos Santos Maia julianasmaia2001@outlook.com Lana Márcia Ferreira Lopes lanna.mg@gmail.com
Nummular eczema (NE) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by coin-shaped pruritic lesions, whose etiology and classification remain challenging. This integrative literature review aimed to elucidate the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of NE, synthesizing current evidence and therapeutic approaches. The methodology consisted of searching for articles in the BVS and PubMed databases, published between 2020 and 2025, using the descriptor "nummular eczema," resulting in the selection of 10 articles for analysis. The results indicated that epidermal barrier dysfunction and an altered lipid profile are central to the disease, and that therapies targeting the Th2 immune pathway, such as dupilumab, are effective, whereas inhibition of the Th17 pathway with apremilast proved ineffective. The discussion revealed that nummular eczema exhibits a mixed Th2/Th17 immune signature, with Th2 predominance, positioning it as a variant of atopic dermatitis and explaining both the success of dupilumab and the increased risk of psoriasis development during its use. It is concluded that understanding nummular eczema as a Th2-driven disease is fundamental to optimizing diagnosis and treatment, establishing dupilumab as a promising therapy for refractory cases, although clinical monitoring remains essential due to its complex immune signature.

Keywords: Nummular eczema, Atopic dermatitis, Dupilumab, Epidermal barrier dysfunction
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Gustavo Paschoalino Reinck de Azevedo, Juliana dos Santos Maia, Lana Márcia Ferreira Lopes http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5475 Mental Health of black university students in times of Covid-19: quantitative-qualitative study 2025-12-08T10:21:49-03:00 Elaine Antunes Cortez elainecortez@id.uff.br Íris Silva Sousa irissilva@id.uff.br Carina Corrêa Bonates Campos carinabonates@id.uff.br Adriana da Silva Santiago santiagoadriana151@gmail.com Vera Maria Sabóia verasaboia@id.uff.br Bruno Gomes de Oliveira brunogomesoliveira@id.uff.br
The university environment is shaped by social factors and specific challenges faced by minority groups, such as those encountered by Black students. This study aims to map teaching, research, and extension projects involving Black students in health-related undergraduate courses at the Federal Fluminense University and describe the profile of these students. This is an exploratory field research with a quantitative and qualitative methodological approach. Data collection was conducted through a documentary record guide and an online form. Thus, 11 mental health projects were analyzed, and data were collected from 17 Black students in the health field at the Federal Fluminense University. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under report no. 5,289,582. The mapping revealed that there were no teaching, research or extension projects focused on the mental health of black students in the health field. Among the participants, most were women, under 30 years old, single, and entered the university through the socio-racial quota system. Regarding mental health, they reported a need for psychological support and evaluated their mental health self-care as unsatisfactory. It is concluded that there is a lack of academic projects focused on the mental health of Black students in the health field, along with limited scientific production on the subject. The data highlight the need to expand institutional strategies for promoting mental health, considering the multiple vulnerabilities faced by Black students in the university context.

Keywords: COVID-19; Students, Health Occupations; Black or African American; Health Promotion; Mental Health.
2026-04-30T00:00:00-03:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Elaine Antunes Cortez, Íris Silva Sousa, Carina Corrêa Bonates Campos, Adriana da Silva Santiago, Vera Maria Sabóia, Bruno Gomes de Oliveira http://editora.universidadedevassouras.edu.br/ojs/index.php/RPU/article/view/5826 Educational technologies used with professionals in the context of prenatal care: integrative review (RIL) 2026-03-30T16:59:07-03:00 Camilly Cardoso da Silva de Assis camillycardoso@id.uff.br Claudia Maria Messias cmessias@id.uff.br Paula Mendes Marinho enfermeirapaulamarinho@gmail.com Patrícia Salles Damasceno de Matos patriciasallesd@gmail.com Júlia Sampaio Fernandes Camacho juliasfcamacho@gmail.co
Introduction: To strengthen care throughout the pregnancy-postpartum cycle and contribute to reducing maternal mortality, investment in Continuing Health Education (PHE) is necessary.
