Abstract

Introduction: Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is one of the main public health problems in Brazil and worldwide, due to its high prevalence and significant impact on morbidity and mortality. This study aims to discuss the role of nursing in a case of hypertensive crisis with target organ damage and to carry out nursing care, outlining diagnoses focused on qualified assistance. Method: This is a descriptive case report. Information was obtained through reports from the patient and companion, as well as analysis of the clinical record. A literature search related to the topic was also conducted using specialized databases. Results: Twenty-three nursing diagnoses were identified, distributed among the domains: nutrition, elimination and exchange, activity and rest, perception/cognition, roles and relationships, safety and protection, and comfort. Discussion: Early recognition of severe manifestations and prompt performance of exams, such as computed tomography, are essential for initiating appropriate treatment, reducing complications, and improving prognosis. The nursing team plays a vital role from the initial care to continuous and humanized follow-up, focusing on clinical stabilization and the prevention of sequelae. Conclusion: This study made it possible to understand the main needs of a patient in a hypertensive emergency and the role of nursing in the early detection of target organ damage, promoting immediate interventions and contributing to harm reduction and clinical improvement.
