Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive procedure performed on the temporomandibular joint with a reduced risk of complications. It can be performed under general or local anesthesia or sedation, and is considered the first choice for patients who have not improved with conservative treatment. Among its treatment indications are displacement of the articular disc, trismus of articular origin, joint pain. Traditionally, arthrocentesis uses irrigating solutions to remove debris and promote therapeutic action within the TMJ. The research chosen for the work was of a bibliographic nature, it is a literature review aimed at constructing the object of study through the analysis of works relevant to the theme. During the research and construction of this work, it was possible to identify significant information that indicates improvements in patients with Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) through the practice of arthrocentesis.
